SISTERS OF CHARITY OUR VISION OF EDUCATION
Holy Child School as signified by its name is dedicated to Mary, the Mother of Jesus and is placed under her protection. The Sisters of Charity of Saints Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa, dedicate themselves to the service of the youth, the sick, and the needy, engaging themselves to be a sign of God's love among men in conformity with the Charism of the Institute. This Institute, from the beginning has developed a profound consciousness that education of the youth is a vital component of the charism of its foundress, St. Bartolomea Capitanio, who held the youth 'Very dear to her heart' and committed herself whole-heartedly to their personal growth and development so that they would become agents of change for a just society.We after the example of our Foundress, dedicate ourselves to the education of the youth in schools. We make constant and careful endeavours to,make the students aware of the develop their intellecual, creative and aesthetic faculties cultivate in them love and appreciation for their culture and traditions train them to make correct use of their judgement, will and affectivity inculcate in them a sense of values; foster in them a sense of awareness,prepare them for future career; and thus develop a well-balanced personality for the good of the society and for the building up of a better world, where love, fellowship and service.
PROSPECTUS ORIGIN
The school plot was purchased from Calcutta Improvement Trust in 1958 and the Bengali Section was started immediately in sheds with tin roofs by the Society of the Sisters of Charity, familiarly known as Sisters of "Maria Bambina", which in English means Sisters of Baby Mary. The Institution is placed under her protection and is called "Holy Child School". The Sisters of Charity have been in India since 1860 and are now spread all over the country running Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Orphanages, and other Charitable Institutions.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Management: Holy Child Girls' High School (recognised by the Board of Secondary Education - West Bengal) is a Private Christian Minority Institution for Girls, established and administered by the Society of the Sisters of Charity. The school does not receive any benefits from the government either in cash or kind under any category and the guardians cannot demand for the same. Though the school takes care of your ward while in school, the school cannot be held responsible for any self-inflicted or accidental mishap/injury physical or otherwise that may befall on your ward.
COURSES OF STUDY
The school includes classes from 1 to XII. The syllabus for Secondary Education (Madhyamik Pariksha) is followed in classes VI to X. West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education syllabus is followed in Classes XI-XII. Bengali is the medium of instruction and English is taught as the second language in all the classes.
RULES OF THE SCHOOL
Enrolment in Holy Child School implies on the part of the pupils and parents willingness to comply with the following requirements and regulations of the School. 1.Students must be present in the class at 10 a.m. and join in the morning assembly, Guardians or escorts must leave the children at the gate and not to accompany beyond. 2. The students who come late must show the class teacher their 'Regularity Record' stating briefly the cause of the delay. 3. Students who have been absent from class must bring the 'Regularity Record' stating briefly the cause of the absence. 4. Students who remain absent from class for more than three days for reasons of ill health must submit a leave letter during their absence. 5. Studnets, absent for 10 working days without any prior information, are liable to have their names struck off from the register. They have to be re-admitted in case they intend to join the classes. 6. Absence from class for marriage and birthday celebrations or for reasons of study is strongly objected to. No leave of absence is given without a previous application for it in writing from the guardians. Tiffin break is from 12.50-1.20 p.m. All are expected to take their tiffin in the school campus. Students have to bring their tiffin with them. Students will not be allowed to leave the school before the school gives over, especially on the day of W.T. If one has to leave for any reason, the W.T. will not be considered. 9. Strict silence is to be observed at the first bell in the morning and afternoon, in the passages and in the library. Special attention is given to ensure a high standard of morality and discipline in the school. 10. Students are responsible for the safe custody of their books and belongings. All work books and text books must be well covered and properly labelled with student's name, class, section and subject. Water bottles and containers should be duly labelled either by etching or by means of a durable paint. Students are not allowed to wear ornaments or carry with them costly articles. The school accepts no responsibility for the loss of these articles. If any forbidden articles are found with any student it will be confiscated and parents will have to come and reclaim it with a fine of Rs. 100/-.. 11. MOBILES ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED in the School and if at all confiscated Rs. 200/- will be charged as fine and both the parents will have to come with their ward to reclaim it. There may be surprise cheking of bags and pockets. Si 12. All children must come to school in clean uniform. They are strictly forbidden to use any makeup, bleaching and colouring of hair, fashionable hair cut including boys' cut, shaping of eye brows, mehandi, nail polish and any other accessories than the prescribed uniform. 13. Students must bring with them all articles needed for the day. Guardians should not insist in the office to forward articles to children during class hours, including tiffin. . 14. The office will remain closed on Saturdays. No school business is transacted during holidays. 15. For promotions, daily performance in the class is a important as the Annual Examination. No consideration will be given to a child who shows herself negligent in her daily work throughout the year. 16. Headmistress has the right to suspend attendance or require the withdrawal of any child whose presence in the school is not beneficial or whose application to study is not Siatisfactory. 17. Students whose attendance is irregular, who are habitually late or absent, lazy or disobedient and whose conduct is injurious to the moral tone of the school or incompatible with strict discipline are liable to be dismissed. 18. Attendance on the first day of reopening of the school, and also on both closing and reopening days of Summer, Puja ts and Christmas holidays is compulsory. 19. It there is any change in the date of the holidays, necessary adjustment will be made and it will be duly notified. 20. It there are any other holidays due to any reason, the following Saturday will be a working day to make up the number of working days.
ADMISSION AND WITHDRAWAL
A written application is required for withdrawing a pupil from school. A Transfer Certificate will be issued only when all dues are fully paid and after two days on receipt of a written application from a guardian. Rs. 50/- will be levied for the same. A Pupil failing in her class at the end of the year does not remain on the roll unless her Guardian pays a month's tuition fee on the day fixed by the school and registers her name if he wishes his ward to continue her studies in our school. A Pupil failing twice in the same class must discontinue her studies in this school. FEES Fees are to be paid by the 15th of each month. A late fee of Rs. 20/- per month will be charged cumulatively in case of default. If the 15th falls on a holiday, the fees are to be paid by the previous working day. The names of pupils whose fees are due for two months may be struck off the roll. They may be readmitted on payment of all arrears and a readmission fee of one month's tuition fee. The school reserves the right to increase the fees at any time if it is considered necessary. The students who enjoy concession in tuition fee are not exempted from the Annual Fee, Development Fee, Examination Fee and Computer Fee.

P and H. S Test will not be shown to any one. Only the Report Cards will be given out Promotion : To be promoted, a pupil must get 40% marks in the aggregate. A pupil who fails to secure 40% marks in more than two subjects will not be promoted. Promotion may not be granted to a pupil who fails to secure pass marks in any main subject in the annual examination and whose progress all through the year has not been satisfactory. A pupil may be promoted on condition that she improves, but this will not be granted for two years successively. In all matters of promotion or failure, the Headmistress' decision is final. VACATIONS There are three vacations during the year - Summer Vacation, Puja Vacation and Christmas Vacation. Saturdays are generally study-holiday. But if any holiday that is not mentioned in the school calendar falls on a working day aue to any reason, the following Saturday will be a working day.
LIBRARY RULES
1.Strict silence and order must be observed in the library. 2. Only one book will be issued at a time and can be kept for two weeks only. No renewal will be allowed. 3. Books borrowed must be returned to the teacher-in-charge in the following week during the library period. A fine of Rs. 10/- will have to be paid on failure to return the book on the fixed day. 4. Students are not allowed to exchange the books among themselves and if ever found doing so, books will no more be issued to them and the students may be fined as well. 5. If any defect is noticed in a book that is being borrowed, the librarian should be notified. Failure to do this checking, renders one liable to be considered responsible for the defects notified at the return of the book. 6. Fine will be imposed for damages done to the books and articles in the library. 7. Books lost must be replaced by the borrower within a fortnight. 8. No books may be retained during vacations. 9. All magazines and reference books used, while in the library, must be put into the proper place after use.

By occasionally meeting the Headmistress to discuss means of bringing about greater progress in their children. By going through the school calendar to see if there is any communication for them from the school. By insisting on neatness and cleanliness in their text books. exercise books and personal appearance. Parents' failure to meet the Headmistress and Teachers when asked for, may cause their children great inconveniences. Parents are strictly warned against employing teachers of Holy Child School as tutors for their wards as it can lead to corruption and favouritism in class.
